Oriental Bay
Close to the CBD, being only a short walk from Te Papa, Oriental Bay has some amazing waterfront cafes and a small beach to check out. The views are gorgeous, with Eastbourne to the right and Wellington harbour to the left. Don’t forget to check out the famous sea fountain!
Miramar
If you arrived by plane, you’ve already been close to Miramar. Pay a visit to Weta Workshop and learn how movie effects and props are made and see how movies you can name by looking at the huge range of props and costumes on display.
Petone
A traditional main street shopping experience, Petone has lots of cute boutiques to explore and cafes which make great coffee! Petone Settlers Museum, which once was a Petone beach bathing pavilion, tells the story of the immigrants and their descendants who made this suburb their home.
Eastbourne and Days Bay
Jump on a ferry at Queens Wharf to take a day trip over to Eastbourne and Days Bay. Chill out on the beach or hire a kayak if you’ve got energy to burn. Explore the many art galleries and boutique stores before enjoying a meal at one of the many outdoor restaurants. If you’re enthusiastic, you can even hire a bike to ride out to one of the lighthouses on the outskirts of Eastbourne.
Mount Victoria
Fancy a walk? The Mount Victoria lookout walkway is a 4.6km loop from Courtney Place to Mount Victoria’s summit (196m high) and back via Oriental Bay. Don’t worry though, if walking isn’t your thing, you can drive to the summit to enjoy the 360-degree views of the harbour, city and ocean.
