It’s not every day the stars come to town, but they certainly have this year! With ten matches on offer at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Wellington, we’re super excited to catch all the action in person!
Held every four years, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is co-host by both Australia and New Zealand, with a total of 29 local games split between Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Dunedin. As we’ve mentioned before, the Wellington Regional Stadium (also affectionately known as The Cake Tin) plays host to many great events, and we can’t wait to see some of the world’s best footballers in action.
Celebrating the Women’s World Cup in Wellington
It’s not all about football this July and August in the Capital – there’s plenty of fun, entertainment and food to be had too. We are as excited as you to welcome the many visitors that have come to watch a game or two, and explore the delights Wellington has to offer including:
Visiting the FIFA Fan Festival held at Queens Wharf, where there is live music, discussion panels, food and of course, the football matches played live on big screens for all. Live performances from Che Fu, JessB and LadyHawke are just some of what you can expect when visiting the Fan Festival venue.
Catching up with friends at one of Wellington’s many restaurants and bars (craft beer fans rejoice, as we know the best venues)
Attending live matches to cheer for teams including USA, Italy, Spain, South Africa and New Zealand! From the 21st July to 11 August, there are seven matches, a round of 16 and a quarter final to look forward to.
Checking out some of the Lord of the Rings filming locations, including Upper Hutt’s Harcourt Park and Kaitoke Regional Park.
