Wellington’s café culture is buzzing, and we’re of the firm belief that there is no better place for a coffee than in the Capital! Being a compact city, it is possible to cover a lot of ground throughout your time here. That means plenty of opportunities to enjoy the fare available at our popular cafes.

We’ve put together a collection of our favourite haunts to help you get started on your café adventure.

Time to Experience Wellington’s Café Culture 

You’re never far from a café in the Capital! With competition between cafes for the best barista, the tastiest coffee beans, and the most delicious food made using the freshest local ingredients, you’ll be spoilt for choice. As you make you way around the city, why not sample some of these options:

·       Staple Espresso – located on Victoria Street in Te Aro, Staple uses Eight Thirty Coffee, which gives them a unique taste over other local cafes. They are also renown for the giant cheese scones and are now selling huge donuts too.

·        Glou Glou – a double bonus, being an expresso and wine bar, Glou Glou is found in the Exchange Building on Allen Street. With a gorgeous interior aesthetic, it’s the place to catch up with friends or workmates and enjoy the local bean Coffee Supreme. Very supportive of local growers and artisans, they have an extensive menu to peruse.

·       Mojo Coffee – from a small boutique roastery café in Wellington, Mojo Coffee have become one of the country’s most well-known coffee roasters. With plenty of Mojo cafes sprinkled throughout the Capital, you’ll never need to miss out on your café fix.

·        Fidel’s Café – enjoy a taste of Cuba at Fidel’s Café, one of Wellington’s most popular meeting spots. Enjoy a mixture of Cuban food and coffee, along with good old fashioned Cuban hospitality. You’ll find this beauty on Cuba Street, where it has existed in some form since 1992.

·       When you’re in need of a weekend coffee, head to the Chocolate Fish Café, located in the old NZ Defence buildings on Shelly Bay Road. With superb harbour views to enjoy thanks to their waterfront location, you’ll enjoy some of the best Kiwiana style food and drinks Wellington has to offer.

·       Customs Brew Bar is located on Ghuznee Street and features a list of speciality coffees you won’t find anywhere else. It’s1960’s décor tops off the welcoming atmosphere you’ll be certain to enjoy.

We know our list of must visit Wellington cafes is nowhere near complete. There are literally too many for us to share, but we hope that during your stay in the Capital, that you take the time to explore many more of them!
